There is no charge for this assessment on its own when a doctor, physiotherapist, nurse practitioner, neurologist, or chiropractor referred you to us for it.

Do you have a valid, non-expired glasses prescription?

A current glasses prescription is required before a standalone contact lens fitting can proceed.

A standard fitting is included with a comprehensive eye exam. A first visit to contacts needs a training session as well, and the $75 covers both. Scleral fittings are always separate.

Do you have Alberta Health Care?

Alberta Health Care pays part of the fee for children's and seniors' eye exams, and for medically necessary visits at any age. If you are new to Alberta, visiting, or covered by another province, the full fee is payable at the visit — you can then claim it through your own plan.

Do you have extended health / vision insurance?

What you get back depends on whether your eye-exam benefit has already been used this coverage period. Many adult plans renew every 24 months, but the period varies by plan — worth checking yours.

Why we recommend it

A single test answers a single question. A comprehensive exam assesses the whole visual system alongside the health of the eye itself, so it can detect conditions a patient came in with no symptoms of: early glaucoma, retinal changes, and ocular signs of systemic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. It also establishes a baseline to compare future visits against.
