Important Update on Alberta Health Care Funding Changes

We are reaching out to inform you about significant updates regarding the recent changes to Alberta Health Care (AHC) funding for eye care services and how these changes may impact you.

Earlier this year, AHC unexpectedly announced reductions in reimbursement rates for vital eye care services. These cuts follow nearly a decade without any adjustments for inflation, resulting in reimbursement rates that are significantly lower than the actual costs of providing care. This situation further threatens our ability to offer you and your family the quality eye care you deserve.

Our Commitment to You

We have thought long and hard about this decision, and we believe the only way to continue delivering the care you deserve is to introduce a small fee for previously fully-subsidized appointments. This change allows us to maintain our extremely high standard of care and continued utilization of state-of-the-art diagnostic technology while also ensuring we provide the personalized attention and expertise you expect from us. Therefore effective February 14, 2025:

Partial, Medical, or Follow-up Exams: $35

Follow-up Exam with Diagnostic Imaging: $65

We understand that this change may come as a surprise, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. We have worked hard to keep these fees as low as possible while ensuring our ability to continue delivering the quality care you rely on at Calgary Vision Centre.

Comprehensive annual eye exams for children and seniors will still be partially subsidized under AHC. Our fees for these services will therefore be:

Full comprehensive eye examination with all diagnostic imaging (ages 19 - 64): $189 (no change)

Complete children's exams (ages 5 - 18): $35

Complete seniors' exams (ages 65+): $85
