WHAT IT IS

A STYLE GAME WITH REAL FRAMES

Frame Finder 3000 is a free arcade-style game made by Calgary Vision Centre. Every frame in it is a real frame on our wall, photographed and in stock. Play a few rounds and it gives you your type, one of 90, and ranks the frames you should try on. No sign-up, nothing to download.

HOW IT WORKS

FROM FIRST PICK TO SHORTLIST

  1. 1

    PICK OR SWIPE

Choose eyeglasses or sunglasses. On a computer, pick the frame you like better in up to 15 matchups. On a phone, swipe right on frames you like and left on the rest.

  2. 2

    GET YOUR SHORTLIST

The game names your type, like The Retro Scholar, and ranks every frame on our wall for you, including ones it never showed you.

  3. 3

    TRY THEM ON

Ask friends to vote on your favourites, send your list to us, or just bring it in. Trying on is still the best test.

UNDER THE HOOD

HOW FRAME FINDER PICKS YOUR FRAMES

Every time you choose one frame over another, the game learns a little more about what you like, and how sure it is.

Every frame on our wall is described two ways. First, by the things an optician would tell you: its shape, colour, material, how bold or fine it is, rim style, brand, size and fit, plus one or two style words like classic, sporty or luxe. Second, by an image AI that looks at each photo and records the finer visual details that words miss, like a keyhole bridge, thin temples or chunky corners.

When you pick one frame over another, or swipe right or left, the game updates its estimate of how much each of those qualities matters to you, and how sure it is about each one. It also notices how quickly you answer: a snap decision counts as a strong preference, and a slow one as a close call. Rather than showing frames at random, it chooses each next matchup to answer the question it's least sure about, among the frames most likely to be your favourites. That's why a few rounds go a long way.

HOW YOUR SHORTLIST IS BUILT

When you finish, the game scores every frame we currently have in stock, not just the ones you saw, by how likely you are to love it. A frame only ranks high when your picks clearly point to it, so it won't recommend something just because it happened to come up. That's why your shortlist often includes frames you never saw during the game, and why it can also predict your "worst matches" with confidence.

Your style profile is read from the frames you'd rank highest, which is how it can call you The Retro Scholar or The Futurist Athlete. As more people play, the game also learns which tastes tend to go together and gives new players a better starting point.

WHY WE MADE IT

BECAUSE A WALL OF FRAMES IS A LOT

Most people know what they like when they see it, but find it hard to put into words. Choosing between two frames is easy. So we turned that into a game.

  • START WITH THE RIGHT FRAMES

Instead of trying on dozens, you arrive knowing which ones to reach for first, and we can have them ready.

  • REAL FRAMES, REALLY HERE

It isn't an online catalogue. Every frame in the game is on our wall in Calgary, so your shortlist is something you can actually try on.

  • PRIVATE AND FREE

No sign-up and no personal details. Picks are anonymous. Your shortlist is a set of style suggestions, not a prescription; for your eyes, book an eye exam.

Frame Finder 3000 is a free style game. It doesn't check your eyes or your prescription.
